Claims and Arguments
Michael Moore makes several arguments and claims throughout the film. He claims that health insurance companies are designed to make a profit and save as much money as possible and intentionally deny health care to save money. He is able to juxtapose the American Health Care system with various other health care systems around the world in order to show the ability that they have to offer universal health care and are prospering. Moore also asserts the idea that America should be able to offer free universal health care when he journeys to the small, developing country Cuba and emphasizes the fact that they are able to offer free universal health care with little resources but the U.S. cannot and they have infinite resources to be able to support their people. Moore also argues that America should have a blended economy, which is where socialism and capitalism are mixed together. He believes that the government should only own companies like health care. He believes America’s democracy/capitalist society is beneficial for companies but he wants to make it where the citizens (usually poor) and American companies benefit from it.
