"Hit man in Healthcare?" Length of Film Clip: 1 min 35 secs Written By: Jordan Allapitan
In this scene, Michael Moore interviews Lee Einer, the hit man for healthcare. In the beginning of the scene, Michael Moore reveals that if someone was “accepted health care, doctor’s treatment, or somehow the healthcare company had to pay for the patients operation, they would send in Lee Einer, a person who would do anything in his power to get the money back for his company. With this statement, he is able to quantify his reasons on the healthcare industry being money hunger, self sufficient and greedy. He proves that the healthcare industry is only working for themselves rather than helping the people in need. He uses the terminology “hit man” to juxtapose the person who does this as a person who gets assigned killings for a living. In further explanation, Michael Moore reconstructs the thinking of the many American people who think that American healthcare is trying to help everyone and anyone they can by indirectly saying that the health care industry pays people who kills, damages, harms or threatens the people who have American healthcare. With this, Michael Moore is able to cause the people question, and reconsider their thinking on American healthcare. Instead of manipulating us more like the American healthcare systems, he repairs our thoughts and reveals the truth on American healthcare. In another part of the scene, he says that “ Lee Einer is the person who finds slip ups on your applications or any pre-existing condition you know you did not have just for the companies money. Michael Moore is able to reveal the cruel practices of the American healthcare companies. He clearly states that the American healthcare companies are only there for their wealth. The companies will find loopholes, slay a 1000 lions or do anything to keep the money in the company, because that is the “American Dream” having all the money and protection one wants but in turn leaving millions if not billions of people in a death threatening positions. In another scene Lee Einer states that “the whole unit of his station is going through the people’s information who did get treatment, operations, and healthcare trying to find something wrong with them. He compares it to being like a murder case.” Michael Moore is able to establish a connection between the two. As he juxtaposes them, he is able to show that both situations kill people regardless the job. By comparing the two, he shows there is no difference than a hit man’s job and a healthcare person’s job. No matter what the job title both jobs kill. In another section, Lee Einer states that, “ if the company can not find anything wrong with the person, then the company raises the rates so the person can not pay the bill.” With this, Moore is able to reveal the companies main intent, the money. Health care is not doing their job and protecting the people, instead only doing it for their well-being. Instead of helping them, they are only making it worse. In the last scene, Lee Einer says that “he has killed and harmed many people while in the healthcare industry, and he is glad that he is out of it.” Michael Moore uses this to grab attention of the viewers. He points out that even the people in the healthcare industry are happy to be out of it. Even though they make tons and loads of money, they rather be out of it than hurting and killing innocent people for a living. By Lee Einer saying “ I am glad I am out of the healthcare industry,” it illuminates that the healthcare industry had bad practices. If someone was glad and happy to be out of something, there must of have been something bad happening inside of the healthcare industry. Michael Moore is able to reshape the minds who believe the healthcare industry is all about helping the people.
